Barbara Ruth (Payton) Dougherty

Barbara Ruth (Payton) Dougherty , 75, died Sun., Sep. 25, 2022 at her Montgomery home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her Mother & Father. As well as her Siblings: Kathy Fitzgerald, & Randy Payton.

Barbara was born April 29, 1947, in Elmore County, AL to James and Frankie Payton. She was a graduate of Wetumpka High School in 1965. Barbara was employed for 32 years in the Civil Service as an Administrative Assistant for the Inspector General and other departments of the Air University at Maxwell and Gunter AFB. She cherished her family and God. She loved flowers, birds, her plants and taking walks in her neighborhood. She also loved being a “GiGi” to her grandson Alex.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years Henry Dougherty, her son David Ward, his wife Melissa and their son Alex. She leaves behind her loving siblings Mickey & Howard Payton and Anita Barber as well as a multitude of family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Atlanta Hwy at 2pm Mon. Oct. 3 with service to follow.
