Sharon Jean Harris, 71, of Montevallo, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025. Born on August 1, 1953, in Lebanon, Indiana, Sharon was the second of four children and grew up in the communities of Anderson and Lebanon. From a young age, her life was marked by deep faith, a love for music, and a heart for serving others.
She began singing and playing the piano in church as a child and felt the call to missions at just 16 years old. That calling led her to Southeastern Bible College, where she met the love of her life, Tommy Harris. Together, they began their ministry as youth pastors before answering the call to serve as full-time missionaries with the Assemblies of God. Over the course of 38 years, Sharon and Tommy devoted their lives to Latin America, building churches, teaching, and spreading the love of Jesus.
Sharon loved the Lord with every fiber of her being and shared that love through her gift of worship. Her passion for music was never about performance — it was about ushering people into the presence of God. Whether teaching in Bible schools or leading worship in local churches, she instilled the truth that worship is a posture of the heart and a sacred offering to the King of Kings.
She was also known for her warmth, creativity, and love of family. A gifted cook and baker, Sharon poured herself into teaching her daughter and granddaughters how to bake, crochet, and embroider — always creating sweet memories filled with laughter, love, and lots of sugar. Her grandchildren were her greatest joys, and she cherished every moment with them — from game nights and Starbucks dates to heartfelt prayers and cheering them on at their events.
Sharon is survived by her beloved husband, Tommy Lee Harris; her children Aaron Harris (Shannon) of Lakeland, Florida, and Kimberly Giraldo (Roger) of Rogers, Arkansas; and her treasured grandchildren, Kailynn, Averie, Brimlee, Sophia, and Sebastian. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Maddox; her sister-in-law, Loretta Greenhill; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Maddox and Velera Maddox Hanna, and her brothers Ron and Anthony Maddox.
Sharon was kind, loving, and patient — a loyal friend and a true reflection of Christ. Her legacy lives on not only through her family, but also through the students she taught, the churches she served, and the countless lives she touched.
Two memorial services will be held in her honor:
• Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Kingwood Church, Alabaster, Alabama
• Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Harvest Assembly, Lakeland, Florida with burial to follow.
Her life was a testimony of faith, love, and service — a life well-lived and deeply treasured.
