Patricia Louise Florence

Patricia Louise Florence, devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, born May 9, 1934 passed away on April 5, 2023 after a brief illness in the presence of the Lord surrounded by friends and family.

Pat, as she was called, grew up in Carlisle, Ohio. She graduated from the Carlisle school system in 1952 where she was a good student. She had secretarial skills which lead to her first job at Armco Steel in Middletown, Ohio. She worked there until she and her husband, Joe, started their family. She then became a homemaker for many years.

Pat moved to Birmingham with her husband in 1974 and lived in Vestavia Hills and Greystone Highlands. As her family became more independent and her husband’s businesses grew, she handled a lot of his accounting needs. As an empty nester, she became an office manager at Guardian Systems in Leeds, Alabama, until her retirement.

Music was a very important part of Pat’s life. She and her sister, Sue, grew up, singing and playing the piano in the Lutheran church in Franklin, Ohio. Later, when she had her own home and family, she had an organ in her home that she played frequently for family and her own enjoyment. Pat was an active member and participant in the choir at Christ the King Luthern Church in Riverchase, Alabama. She loved traveling with the choir and making memories with her friends in Christ.

Her other hobbies included gardening, golf, and playing bridge. She loved her home and she and her husband loved to entertain their friends there. Pat dearly loved her family and spending as much time as possible with them. Her parents called her “Patsy.” Her grandchildren called her “Mawga.” Through our faith, we know God is with her but she will be missed every day.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Eva Lynette Shupert; along with her husband Joseph. She is survived by her three siblings, Dean Shupert, James Shupert and Susan Bieller; by her three children Michael, Melissa Bibb and Beth Brasher; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A visitation and memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 611 Riverchase Pkwy West, Hoover, AL 35244. Visitation will start at 10:00 am followed by the memorial service at 11:30 am.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Christ the King Church with specific consideration for the Prayer Garden or Music Department.
