Mark Dawson Nelson

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Vera Louise Williams Nelson Donna, Jackson William “JW” Nelson, and brother Wayne Stephen Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Adele Jones Nelson of Montevallo; sons, Chris (Heather) Nelson of Calera and Heath (Jamie) Nelson of Trussville; sisters, Wanda (Jerry) Pate of Randolph and Gwen Cupp of Montevallo; cuz, Terry (Janice) Sullivan of Jemison and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mark was a retired Industrial Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) who worked at Southern Lime with 26 years at Abex / ABC Rail / ABC NACO in Calera. He was a loyal union brother and held several positions, as high as president and was in the United Steel Workers of America local 537.

Mark enjoyed working outside especially with all his heavy equipment. He loved his animals, Donkeys - Taco, Rita, Tee and Rose; Dogs - Dingo, Scrappy, and Sims; Cats - BC and Inky, his therapy rabbit - Hippy Hop and all his adopted critters.

Mark would not give you the shirt off his back because he would never part with his pocket tee; long or short sleeve, he always had to have a pocket. Mark would, however, always help when needed and was always extremely dependable. On numerous occasions, he would assist his wife with projects, even though he might fuss. He was always there, as you can tell by the billboard at Owl’s Cove Park and the tulips planted in Montevallo at Moores Crossroads and the Welcome Sign on Hwy 25.

Mark was tried-and-true, a real man’s man and will be greatly missed. They just don't make men like him anymore. “Here is the manliness of manhood, that a man has a good reason for what he does and has a will in doing it.” – Alexander MacLaren

Visitation will be held at Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo, Thursday evening, March 13, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10:00am at Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo, with a graveside service to follow at Montevallo City Cemetery. Rev. Stanley Dawson officiating. Rockco Funeral Home Montevallo directing. Pallbearers will be Edward Blair, JD Burt, Mike Genard, Greg Killingsworth, Ray Lenning, Ryan Logan, David McCall, and Terry Sullivan.
