Lucille "Lucy" Jackson Lyons, age 101, of Pelham, Alabama passed away peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2022. Lucy was born October 20, 1920 to Dennis Joseph Jackson and Clara Frances Wade Jackson and raised in Walker County. She grew up attending Cedar Creek Church of Christ. In her giving and kind spirit, she helped raise her nine siblings. She recalls being ten years old and carrying her baby sister on a pillow. She would grow up during the Great Depression and WWII. Those are years she never forgot as she lived her "make do with what you have" and "take care of what you have" life.
As a young adult, Lucy moved to Siluria and worked at the Siluria Cotton Mill. She welcomed some of her younger siblings into her home so they could attend Thompson High School. In 1947, she became one of the first members of Keystone Church of Christ, now known as Pelham Church of Christ. She is still a cherished member to this day. She has been a longtime active member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Lucy would later move to Alabaster and open Kut 'n Kurl Beauty Salon. She owned this business until 1990.
In 1965, she married James Lyons and instantly became the mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to Jackie and Gerald Greene and their children. Lucy and James would continue to live a simple and sensible life until his passing in 1982.
Lucy moved to Pelham in 1990. At age 70, she began working for her younger sister's family business in Alabaster. She would spend her free time attending church, auxiliary meetings, reading her Bible, making beautiful quilts, crocheting, baking cakes and fruit cookies, making chocolate candies, preparing meals for bereaved church members, playing UNO with her neighbors, and bowling a double split in her 80s. She retired at age 91. In 2012, she would welcome her younger sister back into her home. She maintained her household until March 2020, when she moved into assisted living.
Lucille Lyon's love for the Lord was her secret to a long and fulfilled life. Her love for her family, friends and neighbors coupled with her unwavering faith has been an inspiration to all who knew her.
