Leon Dewitt Curry ("Hornet"), age 71, of Calera, Alabama passed away on December 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was raised in Westville, Florida, one of nine children. He drove trucks for Southern Haulers for 30 years and Casey's Trucking for 14 years. He loved Alabama football and drinking coffee, but his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of his world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Curry and Lodusty Thomas Curry; daughter-in-law, Teresa Higdon Curry; son-in-law, Gary McDonald; sister, Linda McKenzie ("Sis"); sister-in-law, Tiney Cosson Curry; and brothers-in-law, Thomas McKenzie and James McGuggin. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Sanders Curry; his children, Donnie Curry, Ronnie Curry, Betty Curry McDonald, Steven Curry and Richard Curry (April Lodge); daughter-in-law, Cindy Greene Curry; grandchildren, Justin Curry (Jacqlyn), Sherri McDonald (Brandon), Zack Lodge, Hunter Lodge, Jacob Curry (Becky), Courtney Curry, Sara Curry, and Heather Curry; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Willie Curry (Saludie), Bobby Curry (Ardell), Juanita McGuggin, Mary Daughtry (Harvey), Kathleene Mock (Keith), Brenda Montgomery (Ernie), Deborah Ann Williams (Johnny); and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM. Bro. Allen Foster will officiate and burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Alabama. Casual attire requested.
