Lawrence "Larry" Rooker, age 81, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away at home with his wife by his side on Friday, January 19, 2024. He attended Samford University before serving in the US Air Force and US Navy. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was crew chief on the Huey helicopter. He spent much of his career in the restaurant business and later as a property appraiser in the Revenue Department for Shelby County. Following retirement, he volunteered with the Cold Case Department in the Shelby County Sheriff's Office for twelve years. Larry was a member of Briarwood PCA where he enjoyed singing in the choir and was in the Deeper Life Sunday School Class.
Larry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samia Rooker; brother, Stephen Rooker; and sister-in-law, Cherry Findlay. He is survived by his wife, Nedia Rooker; children, Alecia Lowney (John), John Rooker (Tracy) and Meredith Williams (Bobby); grandchildren, Steven Lowney, Gavin Rooker, Grey Rooker, and Colby Williams; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; step-children, Leah Schultz (Kevin) and Jill Smith (Charles); step-grandchildren, Claire Schultz, Carter Schultz, Sarah Smith and Maggie Smith; sister, Judy Perry; sister-in-law, Janine Hancock (Lecil); brother-in-law, Kristopher Findlay; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Larry will be held Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:15 AM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Briarwood PCA Missions Fund or a charity of your choice.
