James “Junior” Lester Lowery, Jr., age 79, of Maylene, Alabama, passed away August 6, 2016. He served in the US National Guard. Junior worked for Chrysler in Trenton, Michigan for 30 years and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. After retiring, he moved back to his home state of Alabama to be with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Cheryl McDonie, Lowery; his son, James Kevin Lowery of Maylene, AL; his daughter, Angie Mendoza (Elmer) of Tucker, GA; grandchildren, Katelyn and Jayden Mendoza; and sisters, Jane Johnson and Tillie Ann Jones (Frank); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lester Lowery and Uril Cox Lowery; first wife, Sue Kendrick Mesh; their adopted son, James David Lowery; and sisters, Mary Lou Farmer and Emma Jean Hucklebee.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). His funeral service will be on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Maylene Lighthouse, with burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
