James "Larry" Bryant, age 75, passed away at home on March 7, 2025. He was born in Decatur, AL, on April 10, 1949. He is preceded in death by his father, James Bryant; his mother Lenora “Etoy” Nation; as well as his son, Marcus Bryant; and his brothers-in-law, Harrel Acton, Jr. and Don Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Acton Bryant; his sister, Brenda Roberts; his daughter, Amanda Bryant King (Kevin); his grandchildren, Victoria Bryant, Alexandria Bryant-Colombo (Alex), Isabella Bryant, Brett Hyslop, and Bailey Hyslop; and great granddaughter, Ariana Colombo; brother-in-law, Brandy Acton (Sherry); sisters-in-law, Nancy Acton, Judi Farmer (Jim) and Laura Dunne (Joe); as well as a host of extended family and close friends.
Larry was a man of service for his country, community, and family. He served during Vietnam in the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1970. He went on to work at Alabama Power Company for 40 years. He also served his community as a firefighter and went on to become Fire Chief at Dogwood Fire near Montevallo in the 1980s. Larry loved his family and his grandchildren in particular. He and Carol were blessed with two children, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild as well as “bonus” kids to which they treated as their own. Their house is one that feels like home to all who entered, family or not.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Enhabit Hospice team – Jessica, Eryn, Sonya, Kelsey, Brandon, Sharon and Christy.
A visitation for Larry will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church Alabaster, 8828 Hwy 119, Alabaster, AL 35007. The funeral to follow at 11:00 AM at the church with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Gardendale, Alabama at 1:30 PM.
