Howard “Wayne” Lowe of Helena, Alabama went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 29th, 2024 at the age of 81. Wayne was born in Arab, Alabama on January 20th, 1943. He grew up in McCalla, Alabama. He never met a stranger. Wayne was tough, having fought in Korea during the Vietnam War era and serving his community faithfully as a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy in many different roles. His stories while an undercover officer and homicide detective could fill a library.
He loved his country and was a fierce Patriot. He instilled this love of America in those around him. Wayne was a World War II and Civil War historian. He spent many years as a Boy Scout leader.
Wayne was a great outdoorsman who respected God’s creation and often said that was his church. Wayne’s quick wit and humor could make you laugh quicker than anyone. He was a friend to all who knew him. He was loyal and a force to be reckoned with. He never backed down. He loved his family more than anything and was very protective of his girls.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Paul and Mary Nell Lowe, and a brother James Hollis Lowe. Wayne leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Carole Paulk Lowe, and his daughter Cortney (Jason) Nordyke. Also, granddaughters, his pride and joy, Roxana and Chloe Nordyke. He is also survived by his siblings Cleon (Kenneth, deceased) Hill, Mary (BB) Woods, Sandra Lowe, and Paula (Ken, deceased) McDaniel. Also survived by his favorite sister-in-law Cheryl (Robert) Richardson, brother-in-law Marvin Paulk, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews that he loved.
His graveside service will be Friday, July 12 at 11:00 am at the Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 HWY 119, Montevallo, AL 35115. He passed away from complications of being exposed to agent orange.
