Otha Franklin Burks, 68, originally from Bessemer, AL died at his home in Navarre, FL, on October 6, 2018. He is preceded in death by his father, James Otha Burks; his mother Dorothy Lenell Booth Burks; a sister, Renee Burks Tucker and a brother, William (Billy) Burks. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Burks, Sherry Gardner (Mike) and Gina Horton (Eddie); his sons, Zachary Burks (Rachel) and Kaleb Burks (Jennifer); his siblings Marion Burks Keith, Wayne Burks, Steven Burks and Elishia Foster Kaley; and his ten grandchildren who he loved more than life itself and by whom he was called “Paw Paw”.
Frank is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served with Bravo Company, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry, Tomahawks. He earned a Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster with letter “V” device, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and Expert Badge (M-14, M-16 and M-60).
A visitation will be held at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo on Sunday, October 14th. A funeral service will occur at Rockco Funeral Home Monday, October 15th with the committal service immediately following at Alabama National Cemetery.
