Faye Whatley Gaines

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wallace Gaines, Sr.; her parents, Bennie and Mary Whatley; sister, Shirley Castalow; brother, William Whatley; and grandson, Darrell Morris, Jr.

Faye is survived by her sons, Ray Gaines, Jr. and Clay Gaines (Carlene); daughters, Donna Morris (Darrell) and Angela Cleckler (Larry); grandchildren, Tyler Doriety, Gray Gaines (Casey), Lewis Gaines, Josh Acton, Rene Lucas (Jerrod), and Kayla Thomas (Jordan); and great-grandchildren, Hartley Lucas, Hampton Lucas, and Declan Thomas.

She grew up on a cotton farm in Excel, Alabama. Faye’s love of horses began at a very young age. She enjoyed working with her dad to break the horses. Faye started showing horses in the late 60’s and her favorites were the Tennessee Walkers and Racking horses. She was also an avid reader, loved to shop, and was very outspoken. Faye loved her big red truck, but not near as much as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to her.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 10am – 11am at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo with a chapel service at 11am. Faye will be laid to rest at Montevallo City Cemetery.
