Emmett Vernon Waldrop, Jr., age 88, of Alabaster, went home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2020. He was born in Montevallo, Alabama on April 27, 1931. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Mary Lee Waldrop.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Jones Waldrop; two daughters, Vicki Sims (Dennis) and Susan Maddox (Jimmy); five grandchildren, Jared Sims, Jeremy Sims (Danielle), Jennifer Gallops (Michael), Abbi Rachels (Jonathan) and Abe Maddox (Thuvan); seven great-grandchildren, Whit Rachels, Baylor Gallops, Lanier Gallops, Lena Beth Sims, Tucker Gallops, West Rachels and Jack Sims; cousin, Dot Smitherman; and his dog, Sassy.
Emmett loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Waldrop graduated from Thompson High School and then went on to serve his country in the US Marines. He worked in the furniture business until he retired.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alabaster for 57 years.
Emmett was an artist. He loved to paint, draw and do woodwork (especially birdhouses). He was an avid Crimson Tide fan and enjoyed all sports. He was the sweetest man and will be truly missed.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). His funeral service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Alabaster, with Dr. Steve Andrews to officiate. Burial at the Alabama National Cemetery will be private for the family.
