Donald Quitman Byrd

Donald Quitman Byrd, age 78, of Shelby, Alabama passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Donald was born May 15, 1943 to Willie Byrd and Ora Curtis. He was raised with 7 siblings. Donald was the definition of a country boy - he loved to fish and hunt, and being outdoors. After retirement, being a Paw-Paw gave his life new meaning, Donald loved teaching the grandkids all he knew, trying new things with them, and taking them junkin'. Donald had a big heart and a big smile. He loved to make people happy and rarely met a stranger. Most importantly, Donald had a personal relationship with the Lord. He was a member of Amazing Grace Worship Center in Alabaster, Alabama and worked closely with the Food Ministry. We know today he is looking down on us from Heaven.

Donald will join in Heaven his dearly missed wife Lorene McMullin Byrd; beloved children, Lisa Lorene and Ronald Max; parents, Willie and Ora Byrd; and siblings, Thelma, Sis, Mary Ruth, Charles, Ray, Herschel, and Wayne.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Melisa Byrd, Donna Burnett (Richard), and Allen Byrd (Shanen); grandchildren, Racheal Smithey (William) and Adam Byrd (Kasey); great-grandchildren, Ayden and Tucker Smithey, Nathan and Lillith Byrd; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and church family.

Donald taught so many lessons, touched so many lives, and gave so much while he was on this Earth. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Monday August 23, 2021 at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo, Alabama from 6pm to 8pm. A funeral service will occur Tuesday August 24, 2021 at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo, Alabama at 10 am followed promptly by a committal service at Elliotsville Cemetery in Alabaster, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Amazing Grace Worship Center's Food Ministry or to the charity of your choice.
