Dennis Dee “Grumpy” Cowart, age 74, of Alabaster, passed away January 12, 2017. He was raised in Rome, Georgia. He was employed with Rome Automobile and Heritage Honda for 17 years. Then, he worked for Volkswagen of America in Troy, Michigan for 10 years and JMA & Family in Deerfield Beach, Florida for 11 years. He was Associate Pastor and Praise & Worship Elder at Cornerstone Church in Helena.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Cowart and Cordelia Shedd Cowart; parents-in-love, James and Virginia Tidwell; and son, Talon Cowart. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Tidwell Cowart; daughters, Tressa Genord (Ed) of Riley Township, Michigan, and Tonya Holmes (Ken) of Alabaster; grandchildren, Trey, Teres & James Cowart, Kayla & Brandon Genord, and Storm & Ansley Holmes; great-grandson, Thaxter Cowart; brother, Doyle Cowart (Frances) of Rome, Georgia; sister, Audrey Plemmons of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-love, James “Bug” Tidwell (Arlene) of Armuchee, Georgia; and sisters-in-love, Linda Dixon (Dick) of Rome, Georgia, and Gail Blanton (Vonny) of Rome, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his canine companion/partner in crime, Samson.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Cornerstone Church in Helena, with Pastor Tim and Rhoda Trimble officiating. The time of the service will be announced soon. If any guests wish to honor him with stories or songs, they will be offered the opportunity. Wear your bright colors and come to celebrate!
