My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Raquel's husband and family.  I met Raquel through my sister Teresa Gayton.   Raquel was an example of strength. She will not be forgotten.

Raquel, or Nonies as the family knew her, was my cousin.  Her dad Joe,and my mother, Stella, were siblings. As a kid Nonies was the big sister I never had. One of my fondest memories of our childhood was Halloween.  Nonies knew of the best places to 'Trick or Treat' that gave out the best candy; and she took me along with her. She was a dear person..sometimes she got a little pushy like big sisters can do. But, she always used to lookout for me.  In later years we went our ways raising our families, but Nonies was always remained thoughtful and funny, and always a part of my family.

I've never met Raquel, but I have known her daughter, Juliana for over 30 years. Since Raquel's passing I have come to learn a lot about her and have realized that my dear friend Juliana is Raquel in so many ways. She is authentic and lively and the most giving person I know.  That is a testament to her parents, especially her mother.  I am so grateful to Raquel for raising a beautiful woman who will carry on her legacy with her enduring spirit and giving personality. I offer my sincerest condolences to the family and pray that you will find solace in all the wonderful memories of your times together.

I met Raquel on 2/9/65.  Thats the kind of impression she made on me.  I remember the exact date we met.  She sat at the desk right in front of me and she turned and said "hi, I'm Rocky".  We were both young and were given God's blessing of growing old and still be friends after 47 years.

Raquel was the kind of friend that never asked anything from you -  but she gave you everything,  her support, her unconditional love, and her faithful friendship.  Besides her great traits she had a unique way of dealing with life and making lemonade out of lemons.  She lived life one day at a time, in the most authentic manner - her way!  Be happy, let's have a drink, don't worry, pray, "this too shall pass"  I could go on and on about this great woman's virtues and strength, but we are all here because we know her and love her.  

My dearest friend, you will be forever in my heart and thoughts.  I am blessed to have had you in my life.
