Pearl Shu-Li Chiu, age 79, of Arcadia, California passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020 and is in Heaven with the Lord. Pearl was born on October 18, 1940 in Hunan, China and moved to Taiwan as a child.
Pearl lived a fulfilling and vibrant life. She loved classic Chinese songs from Teresa Teng, ballroom dancing like the waltz and tango, and was a phenomenal cook where she even sold over 2,000 egg-rolls on one hot 4th of July day! Recently, Pearl enjoyed playing “mahjong” with her friends and sneaking away to the local casinos for some black jack and slot machine action.
Pearl is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Andy Chiu and Joanne Han, and two granddaughters, Olivia (10) and Victoria (7). She was a very proud mom and grandmother. Pearl’s grit and determination inspired Andy to successfully complete undergraduate and graduate school. Her pride and joy were seeing Olivia passionately play the piano and listening to Victoria playfully sing over facetime. She loved her granddaughters very much whether it’s watching YoYo TV together, eating Olivia’s scrumptious egg breakfast, or playing Chinese checkers with Victoria. She also enjoyed sharing Chinese recipes with Joanne and loved Joanne’s gourmet cooking like stir fried beef and home-made mashed potatoes.
She will be missed by her friends and family members. We “love you mom and grandma” and know you are in Heaven with the Lord.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy my be shared at www.liveoakmonrovia.com or 626-359-5311 for the Chiu family.
