Joseph Arthur Bernal, Jr., age 33, was born, on July 12, 1989, at 3:16, in the morning, at Huntington Memorial Hospital, in Pasadena. He passed away, at his home, in Temple City, on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, shortly after 11:00 in the evening. He is survived by his father, Arthur Bernal, his mother, Lorraine Bernal, his sister, Jessica Curbishley, his brother James Bernal, his grandmother, Maria Bernal, his uncles Robert Bernal and Luie Bernal, and aunt Alisa Burgener.
Joseph was a resident of the San Gabriel Valley, his whole life. A talented man, he liked to draw, write stories and poetry, played the piano, and taught himself to play the guitar.
Joseph was a scout from Tiger cub to achieving the second highest rank in scouting - a Life Scout. His favorite thing about scouting was camping.
Joseph worked in the food industry, as a barista. He loved customer service, and was a great salesman. He was so good that his bosses would have him take orders because, as he often said of himself, he could sell you sand at the beach.
He was a pleasant man to be around. He had an infectious smile that always lit up the room.
He was an amazing conversationalist, and could engage anyone in just about any topic. He liked to learn things and loved anything history, whether it was world, national or local.
Those that knew Joseph described him the same way: he was smart, happy, funny, respectful, considerate, helpful, generous, loving, kind, caring, and thoughtful. He loved people, and everyone he came in contact with loved him. He helped homeless people with clothing, blankets and food, when he could.
This is who Joseph was, and this is how he will be remembered.
