It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Marlene Ann Gould (Budiselick), a devoted wife, stepmother, grandmother, educator, and co-novelist. Marlene passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, knowledge, and dedication.
Marlene is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. William S. Gould, and her cherished stepchildren, Dr. Aiden S. V. Gould (CAPTAIN Michael J. Spielman), Ezra P. W. Gould, and grandson United States Naval Academy Midshipman Evan W. Spielman. She found great joy in their lives and accomplishments.
Born in Bellingham, Washington, in 1949, Marlene graduated from the University of Washington in K-12 Education in1971. She spent four decades shaping young minds as a 7th Grade English teacher at Monroe Middle School in Monroe, WA. Her classroom was a place of inspiration, creativity, and encouragement, where nearly 5,000 students discovered a lifelong love for literature and learning. Later, she brought her passion for teaching English to Shan Tou University in Guangdong, China, where she shared her expertise and enriched the lives of her students abroad.
Beyond her dedication to education, Marlene had a profound impact in the literary and medical communities as authoring eleven novels and numerous medical papers with her husband during their nearly forty years together.
Marlene was preceded in death by her loving parents, Matt and Sylvia (Tomich) Budiselick, and her sister Shirley Budiselick. Marlene also left behind countless friends and extended family who loved sharing life with her.
Marlene will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her family, her students, and her craft. Her presence was a source of light and positivity, and her contributions will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
