Fern was the oldest of seven children, doing a lot of the chores to help her mother in the home and to care for her younger brother and sisters. She grew up during hard times and drew from this experience throughout her life. Fern was a sweet person who cared for others and their well-being. She married Marvin L. Baker on March 17, 1944, and they raised four children. She did not work out of the home but did much babysitting and ironing for friends and neighbors. She enjoyed taking care of children more than being around adults. She was a hard worker and kept very busy. She liked crocheting, doing jigsaw puzzles, taking long car rides, and good meals – her favorite was fried chicken.
She was preceded in death by husband Marvin, son Rodger, and grandsons Kenneth and Royce. She is survived by son Robert and his wife Joyce, son Clifford “Cliff” LeRoy, daughter Rhonda and her husband Dean, grandchildren Russell, Robert Jr., Randall, Jennifer, Charlotte and Kristyl, 12 great grandchildren, one great great grandson and her dear sisters Francis Boom and Freda Troyer.
Fern touched many, many lives in her 93 years and will be greatly missed.
