It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Lang-Knox-Hutchins announce her passing at age 104 on June 21, 2018 in Lynnwood, Washington. Elizabeth was born as a twin in Omaha, Nebraska on May 14, 1914. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marie Lang, her eleven siblings, her first and second husbands, Clyde Knox and Clyde Hutchins and her daughter, Joyce Knox. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Knox-Felix, son-in-law, Robert Felix, immediate granddaughters, Tracy Felix-Hansmann and Shawna Felix, step-children, Barbara Mann, John Hutchins, Clydean Reynolds and Nancy Lawson, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
She and her husband, Clyde Knox moved from North Dakota to Monroe in 1934 during the Dust Bowl in the mid-west. Elizabeth was shocked to see all the green in Washington as well as all the apples and wild blackberries going to waste. At the same time in North Dakota people were going hungry because of lack of food sources.
Elizabeth enjoyed life—she loved people and never seemed to meet a stranger. She also loved dancing—especially the Saturday night barn dances in North Dakota. She always kept in touch with family even as it grew and spread out across the US. She and her second husband, Clyde Hutchins enjoyed traveling with their Airstream trailer all around the states (allowing her to visit many family members) and attended many Airstream rallies in the US and Canada.
She worked outside of the home off and on over the years including time with Monroe Dry Cleaners where she learned a lot of tricks as a seamstress. She crocheted, macraméd, embroidered, sewed, and could bake some awesome sweet bread rolls. Also, she played Bunko with her friends at the Monroe Senior Center where she volunteered at their monthly Pancake Breakfast.
The family would like to acknowledge all the wonderful caregivers at A&D Homecare, Adult Family Home in Lynnwood where Elizabeth spent the last few years of her life.
Elizabeth was a long-time member of St Mary of the Valley Catholic Church in Monroe. A Rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28th at Purdy and Kerr with Dawson Funeral Home at 409 West Main Street in Monroe. Her 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be at St Mary of the Valley Catholic Church located at 601 West Columbia Street in Monroe on Friday, June 29th. A Reception lunch will follow in the Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name go to Monroe Senior Center.
