Samuel proudly served the country with the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of NC State and had a long career as a district manager with Knight-Ridder Corporation.
Samuel was already there to help – anyone and everyone, a friend to all that never met a stranger. He was a member of West Monroe Baptist Church and later a member of Lee Park and also a Gideon. He loved his family and most of all he loved the Lord.
In addition to his parents, Samuel is predeceased by his brothers, Robert (Bob) Helms, Ancil (Rudy) Helms, Charles (Doug) Helms and his sister, Dean (Helms) Wolfe. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marian Ellise Helms, sons Russell Todd Helms and wife April Helms, Andrew Brady Helms and Samuel Justin Helms; his grandchildren, Lindsay (Helms) Snipes and husband Austin Snipes, Bruce Helms, Abigail Helms, Samantha Helms, Jacob Helms and James Helms and his two sisters, Deborah Helms Simpson and Holly Helms Brendle.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. A service to celebrate Samuel’s life will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at McEwen Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.
