Richard Smith

January 25, 2022. Richard was born on August 17,1936 in Monroe, NC, the son of the

late John Thomas (J.T.) Smith and Macie Yandle Smith.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ida Hinson Smith; his sister,

Ann Smith Beck of Ellerbe NC; his children, Susanne Smith Miller and John Michael

Smith (Lisa); five grandchildren, Matthew Gregory Miller, Andrew Smith Miller,

Hannah Britt Miller, Brittany Nicole Smith Torano (Joe) and Hunter Alexander Smith.

Richard was extremely proud of his family and especially delighted in his

children and grandchildren. He loved nothing more than spending time with them and

attending their various sports and other activities.

Richard worked for Monroe Hardware Company for 35 years and after retirement ran a successful small frame shop business. His attention to detail and eye for color brought repeat clients and new referrals to the shop to frame their family photos, memorabilia and other treasures.

Richard was an active member of Zoar United Methodist Church in Pageland, SC and

cherished his church family.

Richard will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his love for

others. He will also be remembered for handing out Life Savers peppermints to any and

everyone he met.

The visitation will be held Friday, January 28, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe, NC. A

committal service will occur at 3:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2584 Hwy 601,

Pageland, SC.

Hospice of Union County, and our special friend Betty Hosage for their tender care and

support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Zoar

UMC, the Council on Aging or Hospice of Union County.
