He was born in Fayetteville on January 21, 1935 to the late Charlie Griffin and Ila Blount Nobles. Rex was a truck driver for 37 years and also owned a roofing company. He loved Music on Main, antique car shows and listening to beach music. In his younger years, Rex was a shagger and expert water skier. He had a beautiful bass voice and loved to sing Southern Gospel Music for others, especially at nursing homes and various churches.
Rex is survived by his wife, Laura Geri Griffin, brother, Charles Griffin of Raleigh; sister, Mary Lee Wicklum of Weddington; son, Rex Jr. and daughter, Sheila, both of Asheboro; son, Brent of Missouri and best friends, Dorrie and Ken Stebbins of Wingate.
A visitation will be held at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 2021 Claude Austin Road, Monroe NC, on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will follow immediately at the church at
3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Rex’s memory to Hospice of Union County or Solid Rock Baptist Church.
