Born on May 21, 1935, Joyce was a Union County native who loved needlepoint and baking and cooking for others. She was especially famous for her pound cakes and always insisted that guests have a sweet treat before they left. Joyce would also work with family and friends to make pocketbooks that they would then sell to fund cherished beach vacations together. On the weekends, you could find Joyce gardening and spending lots of time “playing in her flowers” and planting a variety of blooms throughout her yard. She attended Bethel Baptist Church in Marshville, North Carolina, where she was a faithful and dedicated member. Finally, Joyce loved and treasured her family and all the precious memories she made with them. “Mimi,” as she was affectionately known, will always be remembered for her infectious smile and unwavering love for her family and friends on whom she left an indelible mark.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Funderburk; former husband Edd Moore; and brothers, Harold Deese, Clayton Deese, and Kenneth Deese. She is survived by her children, Terri M. Bailey (Bish) and Steve E. Moore (Donna); grandchildren, Kent Long, Chelsey Bailey Lundgren (Tyson), Robert Bishop Bailey III (Deveryn), Schyler Bailey-Patel (Mike), and Casey Elizabeth Moore; great grandchildren, Wyatt Lundgren, Walker Lundgren, Wren Lundgren, Robert B. Bailey (Bo) IV, Ford Bailey, and Jackson Bailey; and sister, Willie Collins.
