John was married to his beautiful bride, Rachel for 67 ½ years and has missed her tremendously since her passing last year. They are together once more which we know makes him extremely happy. John was a very family-oriented man and loved his family deeply. The sun rose and set in his kids and grandkids. If “Daddy” couldn’t fix it then it probably couldn’t be fixed to begin with.
John was the historian of the extended Crook family. He knew all of his aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he visited with on a regular basis as long as his health permitted.
John was a tool and dye maker by trade as well as being a farmer. There was nothing that he couldn’t stick in the ground that didn’t grow and he took great pride in that. If there was too much for his family he also shared with friends and other family.
John was a proud US Army veteran having served during the Korean War during 1953-1955 and then serving in US Army Reserves when completing active duty in 1955 until 1961.
John is survived by 3 of his children, Teressa Crook, Jerry Crook and his wife Cindy, whom he called his daughter as well, and Steven Crook and his husband Brad Platt, whom he called his son as well. He is also survived by his grandson, Shaun Crook and great-grandsons, Tyler Crook and Blake Crook. He is also survived by his sisters, Joann Phillips, Sarah Lynn (Ted) Gerlach, and Carlene (Richard) Courtney. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in his name to your favorite charity.
