Irene P. Wilson of Waxhaw, NC, so lovingly known as “Maw Maw” passed away on March 12th, 2015 in the comfort of her home. She was born in Union County on October 5th, 1935. She was 79 years old. She attended Waxhaw School and graduated in 1953. That same year, on December 25th she married her life-long love of 61 years, Douglas M. Wilson. Together they had 4 children. Irene worked with ceramics for a time and then opened a daycare center right next to her home. She loved to play and coach baseball, although her favorite times were spent fishing with her husband. Irene also had a passion for raising the children from the daycare center; each one had a special place in her heart. She will be greatly missed by all the people who loved her.
Irene was preceded in death by her sons, Clyde Douglas Wilson of Waxhaw, Mark Darren Wilson of Waxhaw and Jerry Van Wilson of Waxhaw; her parents, Clyde Plattenberger and Verla Rowell Plattenberger of Waxhaw; her brother and sister-in-law Henry and Ailene Plattenberger; and her sister-in-law, Nita Plattenberger.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas M. Wilson of Waxhaw; her brother, Don Plattenberger of Washington State; her daughter, Cindy I. Wilson of Waxhaw; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Wilson of Waxhaw; her grandchildren, Tasha, Jennifer, Morgan, Trevor, David, Casey, and Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Maleah, Brooklynn, Braylen, Kylar, and Kinza. Also the 4 generations of children she helped raise in Waxhaw.
Mrs. Wilson’s family will receive friends on March 15th, 2015 from 1:00p.m. until 3:00p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe with the funeral service starting at 3:00p.m. Burial will follow in Waxhaw City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Waxhaw Baptist Church and Hospice of Union County.
