Georgia G. Powell

Georgia Gurley Pope Powell, age 80, of Monroe, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 26, 2017 while at home. She was born in Union County on February 22, 1936, daughter of the late Cleveland and Mattie Ford Gurley. Georgia was a long time member of Sutton Park Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her late husbands, John H. Pope and Jesse W. Powell; her daughter, Brenda Ann Helms and her grandson, Michael Jay Furr. Georgia was also preceded by her five siblings.

Survivors include her son, Eddie Dean Pope and his wife, Vicki; her two grandsons, Cory Pope and his wife Elizabeth and Casy Pope and his wife, Kristi; and her three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 10:30am until 11:00am on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe with a service to celebrate Georgia's life beginning at 11:00am in McEwen's Colonial Chapel.
