He was born in Monroe, NC on July 16, 1930, son of the late Rev. Woodrow Wilson Rose and Flonnie Benton Rose.
George “Porky” Rose was a State of N.C. Law Enforcement officer for 30 years, following his notable career as a professional minor league baseball player, a power hitter and member of the Union County Hall of Fame. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher to law enforcement officers. George lived a life of passionate devotion to Jesus Christ and to his family.
George was preceded to Heaven by his beloved "bride" of 67 years, Elgiva ("Geevie") Rose. He is survived by his loving sister, Mary Rose Helms; his son, Rev. George (Bubba) Rose, Jr. and wife, Nedra of Amherst, Va; his grandchildren, Dr. Monica Rose Brennan and husband Dr. Michael Brennan; Rev. Jeremy Rose and wife Jill; Rev. Dr. Brady Rose and wife Renita; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Rose “J J”, Bethany Rose, Caleb Rose, Elsie Grace Rose, Elizabeth Brennan, John Luke Brennan, Betty Jayne Rose and Felicity Rose.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, January 15th followed by a 1 p.m. Funeral Service at First Baptist Church Indian Trail, 732 Indian Trail Fairview Road, Indian Trail, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, North Carolina.
