Ernest Lowery

Mr. Ernest Junior Lowery, age 82, of Weddington, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 12, 2022 after a courageous battle with multiple health problems, including cancer.

Ernest was born in Pageland, SC on August 9, 1940. He was the son of the former Curtis and Theodocia Lowery.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Miriam Lowery, and two daughters, Kathryn Snelling (husband Larry, deceased) of Pageland, SC, and Tammi Callender and her husband, Bob of Monroe, NC. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Larry Snelling, Rebekka Snelling, Brent Callender, Glen Callender, Joel Callender and Lorraine (Raine) Callender; and one great-grandson, Parker Blalock; and one great-granddaughter, Kaydence Snelling.

Ernest also leaves behind two sisters, Faye Roberts of Durant, Oklahoma, and Elaine Wrenn of Raleigh, NC; brother-in-law Louis Rochester of Charlotte; sisters-in-law Beverly Rochester, Sue Lowery, Dorothy Rochester, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ernest was predeceased by his brother Ben Lowery, sisters Nikki Ellison and Aline Brown, and great-grandson Ethan Moore.

After many years employed in the trucking industry, Ernest returned to school for training to spend several more years in the heating and air-conditioning business.

After retirement, Ernest enjoyed traveling with his wife and visiting with out-of-state family. Family reunions were very important to Ernest as he loved to catch up with cousins he didn’t see very often. He also spent most of his life enjoying the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent several years enjoying pier fishing with daughter Kathy. Both daughters were very important in his life and he showed his “daddy” love continuously.

Ernest loved his church, Graceway Baptist Church, especially his pastor, Chris Edwards, and Primetimers Sunday School Class. He was so blessed to have a wonderful church family whose prayers meant so much to him and his wife. He would often strike up a conversation with total strangers, and after a few minutes ask if they went to church, and if not, he would invite them to Graceway. He loved the Lord and knew God was giving him the strength to get through these last few years of illness.

A visitation for Ernest will be held Monday, November 21, 2022 from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at Graceway Baptist Church located at 4700 Weddington Road in Matthews, NC. A funeral service will then follow at 11:00 AM also at Graceway Baptist Church with committal then following at Lakeland Memorial Park.
