Born on January 1, 1934 in Guyana, Elveira grew up with a happy childhood where she was greatly loved by her parents and family. That happiness continued when she met and married her husband, Paul Matheson. Paul was a traveler captain and after years of fishing and port visits, Paul and Elveira came to live in Shelby, North Carolina. After Paul passed, Elveira took up factory work and worked as a plant operator in the manufacturing industry. Family was very important to her and spending time with her was always very special.
Along with her husband, Elveira is preceded in death by her brothers, Louis Baptiste, Herman Baptiste, John Baptiste, Albert Baptiste, Clifton Baptiste, and twin brothers, Hector and Franky Baptiste; sisters, Doris Baptiste Sinonson, Eloise Baptiste Barrow, Muriel Baptiste Choy, and Thelma Gonsalves; brother-in-laws, Albert Gonsalves, Ralph Ridley, and Ray Matheson; and sister-in-law, Cynthia Vieira. She is survived by her sisters, Elaine Matheson and Sheila Ridley; and brother, Wilfred Vieira; along with numerous nieces and nephews; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Wingate United Methodist Church, located at 111 Hinson Street, Wingate, NC 28174.
