Born and raised in Union County, NC, Mr. Starnes retired to the Pageland area in 2006. He was the son of the late Thomas H. Starnes and Ruby Stewart Starnes Richardson. He leaves behind his loving wife, Vicki Vance Starnes, son, Gary B. Starnes (Kimberly) of Lincolnton, NC; daughter, Deborah Starnes Reeve of Sylva, NC and sister, Dr. Jodie Trotter of Morgantown, WV. He was preceded in death by brother, Thomas Howard Starnes; sister, Ruth S. Starnes; brother, Robert B. Starnes and brother, D. Carson Starnes.
Bruce was a graduate of Prospect High School, Monroe, NC, where he enjoyed playing baseball. He was a retired painting contractor but wore many extra hats over the years as a home builder, hay, cattle and horse farmer, store owner and Jack Russell breeder. After retirement, he enjoyed working at his church, watching the Atlanta Braves, reading Western books, fishing at the coast and vegetable gardening. He was a member of White Plains Baptist Church, Jefferson, SC.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Hargett and Rev. Mark Plyler officiating.
