Born November 18, 1933 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Bob attended and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School. After marrying his wife Ella, he joined the United States Army where he was honorably discharged at his completion of service. He later worked with Queen City TV for several years before moving to Pageland, South Carolina where he opened Gardner’s TV & Appliance where he and his son David repaired televisions. Bob had many loves and enjoyments in his life including playing golf at White Plains Country Club as well as riding his motorcycle. He also loved to cook which led him to open several restaurants with his last one being Bob’s Steak & Eggs. He also loved spending time with his friends at Twin Harbors at Lake Tillery as well as his monthly meals with his brothers, Buddy and Edward. He also helped serve his community where he served a term on the Pageland Town Council. Bob spent his last few years caring for his wife Ella, who passed away on March 27, 2022. Bob will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Edna Mae Gardner; wife, Ella Gardner; son, David Gardner; brothers, William (Bill) Gardner, Paul Gardner, Charles Gardner, and Wade Gardner; and sister, Margaret Gardner. He is survived by his grandson, Nathan Gardner (Leigh Anne); great granddaughters, Alexis Ross and Alley Gardner; brothers, Carl (Buddy) Gardner and Edward Gardner; daughter-in-law, Lisa Gardner; dear friend, Gail Ratliff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street in Monroe, North Carolina. Pastor Jeff Whitecotton will be presiding the service.
