Virginia (Ginny) Burkart Shaw, age 93, of Monroe, Connecticut, formerly of Lindenhurst, NY, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Allen Shaw who predeceased her in 1989. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on October 18, 1921, she was the daughter of John Burkart and Helen Burkart Meaney. Virginia attended Hofstra University. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lindenhurst for sixty years, serving on the church board and parsonage committee. She enjoyed helping those in need and working at her church’s thrift shop. An avid quilter, she used her many talents to bring joy and light to others. More recently she has been a member of the United Methodist Church of Monroe. Her greatest pleasure was found in the time she spent with her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Virginia was predeceased by her eldest son Richard and her sister Evelyn Powers. She is survived by her children Susan Koneff, her husband Don; her son David Shaw and his wife Donna of Monmouth, Maine; daughter-in-law Nancy Shaw of Gorham, Maine; and her sister Barbara Kirk of Avon Lake, Ohio; her cherished grandchildren Douglas and David Koneff; Jeffrey, Kristen and Michael Shaw; Lynette Shaw and Christina Riddle; and her beloved great grandchildren Alexander, Sophie, Max, Connor, Aaron, Joshua and Paula.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17th from 4pm-8pm at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. And again on Friday, September 18th from 4pm-8pm, at the Lindenhurst Funeral Home, 424 S. Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst, NY. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 11am at Pinelawn Cemetery, Long Island.
