Shirley Eleanor (Dimon) Cornut passed away at the age of 95 on July 5, 2015. She was born July 22, 1919 in the White Hills section of Shelton. Daughter of Frederick and Leah Beckwith Dimon. She was predeceased by her husband Charles L. Cornut Sr. after 72 years of marriage. Also predeceased by her grandson Michael Longo, and great granddaughter Ashley Meghan Batt.
Shirley was one of eight siblings, predeceased by 6 of them; Marcus, Earl, Kenneth and James Dimon and her sister Doris Blakeman. She is survived by her sister Hazel Curtis.
She graduated from Bridgeport hospital school of nursing in the early 1940’s. She also worked for the United States Postal Service here in Monroe for 23 years.
Shirley and Charlie were married in Warrington, Virginia on September 13, 1941, before her husband left for the South pacific where he served the United States Army for the next 3 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharyn Cornut Fowler and her husband George, Wendy Cornut Longo and husband Michael, sons, Charles L. Cornut Jr. and his wife Marcy, and Craig A. Cornut Sr. and wife Susan. Also survived by 11 grandchildren Julie Fowler Batt, Christopher Fowler, Tember Hurd Bender, John S. Hurd Jr, Shawn Cornut, Charles L. Cornut III, Kelly Cornut, Kristina Cornut, Craig A. Cornut Jr., Chase Cornut, Todd Cornut and 17 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
She was involved with the mothers club of Monroe. Both she and her husband Charlie were very active with the United Methodist Church of East Village.
She had a love of painting, and was well known for her apple pies. She spent many years of her life traveling with her beloved husband to Europe and Australia, along with several trips across country. They also enjoyed their lakeside vacation home in Maine.
She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and community.

Visiting hours will take place on Friday the 17th of July 2015 at The Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111) Monroe ,CT from 4-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the United Methodist Church on 115 Cutlers Farm Rd. Monroe, Ct on Saturday the 18th of July 2015 at 10 am.
