Rolf Schmidt

Rolf Schmidt, 87, of Monroe, husband of Erika Nagel Schmidt, died Wednesday March 5th at his home. Born in Wuppertal, Germany on December 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Peter and Lydia Islieb Schmidt and had been a long time Monroe resident. Rolf attended Trade School in Germany and pursued interests in college courses. Rolf and Erika were married in Wuppertal, Germany on February 26, 1955 before coming to the United States. Rolf was a Tool & Die Craftsman and worked at Bridgeport Tool & Die for many years, prior to his retirement. He was a long time member of the Germania Sports Club. He loved gardening, tennis, bicycling and doing home improvement projects. Rolf appreciated good jokes, had a dry sense of humor and was thrilled to be a grandfather. In addition to his wife Erika, Rolf is survived by two daughters; Monika Edman and her husband Donald and Barbara Freebairn and her husband James and two grandchildren Aiden & Kylie Freebairn. Friends may visit Friday March 7th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with Funeral Services being held at 7:00 pm at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home 315 Monroe Turnpike Monroe.
