Lewis E. Waller entered into Eternal Rest on August 9th, 2011. Mr. Waller was born on May 8th, 1923 in Harlem, NY to Lottie Elam and Marion Waller. Lewis graduated from Stratford High School in 1942. Shortly after, he joined the United States Army and served in World War II. In 1946, he joined the American Legion, and served in many positions before he became the first and only African-American Commander of the American Legion Department of Connecticut in 1995. He was employed by Acme Shear for over 40 years. He was one of the founding members of the Eldorado club which was formed in 1948 . He enjoyed collecting model cars, watching baseball games with his sons, and spending time with his family. He had a passion for music, especially jazz. He was a member of Golden Hill United Methodist Church. Lewis was pre-deceased by his wife, Rose Blackwell-Waller. He is survived by his sons and daughter, Lewis Waller Jr. (Celeste) of Stratford, Lenny Waller (Myra) of Maryland, Mason Blackwell of Shelton, Lawrence Waller of Stratford, Kevin Waller (Ilethia) of Stratford, Drew Waller of Stratford, Rose Blackwell of Stratford and Ronald Waller of Bridgeport. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grand children, 3 great-great- grandchildren, his close friends “Mr. Pete” and Glen Swanson and a host of other family members and special friends. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 15th at 10:30AM at Golden Hill United Methodist Church at 210 Elm St. in Bridgeport. Interment will be at Mountain Grove Cemetery immediately after the services. Friends may call Sunday August 14th from 4 to 8:00 pm at the Spadaccino and Leo P.
