Joyce L. Bocchino

She was born September 9, 1932, in Port Chester, New York. She was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Velapoldi and Marie E. Reed. She was predeceased by her cherished husband of 64 years, Thomas A. (Gaetano) Bocchino. She is survived by her grateful children and their spouses: Thomas (Carolyn), Reed (Lynn), Matthew (Allison), Christy (Jeffrey) and five grandchildren, Eric Bocchino (Trish), Courtney and Jenna Thomas, Cole and Evan Bocchino; as well as her brother, Dr. Rance A. Velapoldi (Bente) of Tranby, Norway and several nieces and nephews.

A nearly life-long resident of Greenwich, she graduated from Greenwich High School in 1950 and resided in Greenwich for over 86 years. She juggled the many responsibilities of a wife and mother of four children with fierce love and dedication. She was our first and best teacher, a wonderful homemaker, housekeeper, cook, nurse, keeper of the faith, and occasional psychologist to us all. Her home was the gathering place where everyone wanted to be, and her joyful spirit was a true gift recognized by everyone who knew her.

While raising her family, Joyce held part-time positions as bookkeeper and waitress, and once her children were grown, Joyce was employed as a payroll and accounts payable administrator with Protective Alarms in Greenwich.

Joyce maintained a lifelong love of learning, was a voracious reader, a talented artist, and a keen intellect. Whether it was summer vacations on Cape Cod, hosting Christmas Eve, or attending plays, sports games, and Harry Potter midnight book releases with her grandchildren, she treasured her family and was happiest when all were together. She delighted in participating or even just listening to the playful banter we all shared.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry Street, Greenwich.
