Joanne N. Carlson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, joined our Lord in Heaven on Sunday, (Mother’s Day), May 8, 2016. She resided at The Hills of Monroe with her husband, Bob. They were married for 61 years, as of March 19, 2016. She had celebrated her 80th birthday on Christmas Day 2015. She was born in New Britain, Connecticut on December 25, 1935 to Fanny Rodin Nelson and Charles A. Nelson, who are both deceased. After the untimely death of her mother, her father remarried and she was raised by Rena Peterson Nelson, also deceased. She is survived by her husband, Bob, two sons, a daughter and their spouses, Douglas and Ann Marie Carlson, Karin and Richard Caves, and Glenn and Rae Carlson. She treasured her grandchildren, Joshua Brown and his wife Emmi, Sarah Carlson, Glenn Carlson Jr., Timothy Caves, and John Caves and they treasured her. She is also survived by her brother Robert Nelson and his wife Grace, her sister Arlene Nelson, her sister-in-law Marilyn Cummings and her husband Jeffrey, and her brother-in-law Leroy Carlson Jr. She is also loved and remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many dear friends. Joanne and Bob have been faithful members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroe, Connecticut for 37 years. Her faith, strong and steadfast, was an inspiration to all. That faith, family and friends were what mattered most in her life. She will be remembered lovingly for her hugs, chocolate chip cookies and her everlasting smile. Music was always in her life and she loved to share it with everyone in song with her beautiful soprano voice and playing the piano. Her favorite pastimes were boating, knitting and playing family board games. She will be remembered with love in a Memorial Service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 466 Elm St. Monroe CT. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joanne Carlson Memorial Fund at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Our heartfelt thanks to St. Vincent’s Hospital Cancer Center, Swim Across the Sound, and all others who cared for her through her fight against cancer.
