Our Angel, Joanne Marie Benson of Monroe, went to be with our Lord Jesus on Thursday July 2nd, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born March 24, 1969 to Carl Forrest Benson and Jeanette Kachele Benson of Monroe. She fought a courageous year long battle with cancer with hope, a strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers from family and friends.
Joanne was a graduate of Masuk High School 1987 and Sacred Heart University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Most of her career was spent working in the Town of Easton as a records clerk, special police officer and dispatcher. She was a member of the Monroe Police Explorer’s and the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department during her youth.
A most caring and gentle soul, Joanne was loved and cherished by all of her family and friends, of which she had many. She served God in the Black Rock Church Nursery, track ministry and was a dedicated member of a community group. Joanne’s passions included flowers (sun and zinnia’s), working in the garden, horses, cross-stitch, DD iced coffee and Disney World. She also loved spending time with her family especially during the holidays.
A few days before her passing, Joanne was able to celebrate her son's graduation from high school, with family and friends. Joanne was so very proud of Michael and all of his accomplishments.
Joanne is survived by her son, Michael Aaron Benson, the love and inspiration of her life. Her sister Laura Benson Griffiths and brother in law Gary Michael of Easton. Her Brother, David Carl Benson of Monroe. Joanne loved spending time with her nephews and niece - Jack, Kai, Emma and Zane Griffiths, all of Easton. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends and family are invited to Joanne's wake, Tomorrow, Thursday, July 9th, 2015 from 4-7pm, at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. A service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, 11am at the Black Rock Congregational Church, 3685 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, please meet directly at church, with reception to follow.
