Jean You Leung passed away in her home in Monroe at the age of 87.
Jean was born in China on July 7, 1926. She married Wing Dep Leung in 1947 and moved to Ansonia, CT later that year. As their family began to grow, they moved to Bridgeport, CT, where she and her husband worked tirelessly at their family-run business, John Den Laundry, for over 30 years. Jean and her husband decided to retire in Monroe, CT, where she called her hometown for the past 33 years.
Jean showed her pride and her passion through her many gardens that she cultivated at each home. Her love of gardening continued throughout her final summer months. Thankfully, she shared the talents of her bounty as she shared tomatoes, zucchinis, peppers and all kinds of exotic Chinese vegetables with family, friends and neighbors. Her flowers were spectacular!
She was also enjoyed watching wrestling and cooking shows on television.
She was a caring mother to Corinna, her special needs child. She became passionate about helping the mentally disabled at The Goodwill Industries and Kennedy Center.
She was also a dedicated wife who took care of her stroke-stricken husband. Her dedication did not waiver as her husband’s health continued to deteriorate over the remaining 25 years of his life. She was also appreciative of all the care given to her husband at the VA Healthcare Center of West Haven, CT.
