At the age of 86, James H. Walsh, died peacefully Wednesday, January 27th 2021, at Prisma Health Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. James, a Bridgeport native, was the son of Edward and Rose Walsh, and loving husband of 54 years to Margaret Carol Walsh (predeceased). James is survived by his daughters Donna, and Sheila along with her husband Robert, his son James and wife Carla, and his brother John Walsh and wife Mary Ellen. James had many grandchildren that he enjoyed immensely: Christopher, Kelly, Nella, James, Marco, Jessica, and Anthony. He was preceded in death by siblings William Walsh, Edward Walsh, and Rosemary Cronk.
James, an avid Mets fan, grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut attending the former Sacred Heart Catholic School, and then attended Fairfield Preparatory School graduating in 1952. He then joined the United States Army serving at Fort Sill Oklahoma and was honorably discharged in 1957. Upon his return home, he joined the Bridgeport Fire Department, achieving the rank of pumper engineer, and spent the majority of his career stationed at Engine 3 on Norman Street, finishing his career at Engine 3 & 4 on Wood Avenue, retiring in 1986. After his retirement from the Fire Department, he worked for the Diocese of Bridgeport, at St. Pius School in Fairfield CT for several years. In his retirement, he enjoyed watching the various sporting games played by his grandchildren. He recently moved to South Carolina to enjoy some warm weather in his retirement.
A visitation will be held from 9am –10 am on Thursday, February 4th, at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe with a funeral service to held immediately following at 10am. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT.
