George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judith (Matus) Brooks, and three daughters, Laura Rivnyak and her husband Frank of Oxford, CT, Lisa Brooks of Ocala, FL, and Beth Brooks and longtime partner Joel Tanis, also of Oxford, CT. George is also survived by grandson Kyle Jacob, of Arvada, CO, and great grandchildren Miribella Jacob and Liliana Jacob, also of Arvada, CO.
George was born in Scranton, PA on Feb. 17, 1937, to the late George and Mary (Hyduchak) Brooks. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann (Brooks) Fuse. George and his family moved to Bridgeport, CT, at the age of 4. He later graduated from Harding High School, class of 1954.
Upon graduation, George was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT, as an assembly technician. He proudly worked on all of the Blackhawk and Presidential helicopters manufactured during his 44 years at Sikorsky. George retired in 1999 at the age of 62.
George had a physical disability that never prevented him from accomplishing anything. He loved to work in his yard, and planted a garden every year, growing his favorite Big Boy tomatoes. He loved cooking, especially Christmas Eve dinner for family and friends.
George was also very handy, and was known as Mr. Fixit, finding a way to repair anything around the house, cars and lawn equipment, especially his favorite Wheel Horse tractor.
Most of all, George was an avid outdoorsman, and lived to go deer hunting every year with lifelong friends in Rensselaerville, NY. He happily spent many hours sitting under a pine tree watching nature around him.
Family and friends were so important to George. He loved to talk about anything and everything, and he always had an opinion.
Thank you to the many neighbors, friends, family and caregivers who supported George during his life. You were all very special to him.
