Born on August 5th, 1952, in Waterbury, CT, to Alphonse and Natalie Pannone, Gary's life was marked by a deep curiosity and a passion for the natural world. He met his beloved wife, Ellen (Hackett), while "cruising" the west side of Waterbury in his classic blue Chevy during their high school years; they married on May 2nd, 1981.
Gary proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War while stationed in Europe, where he also completed his education in electrical engineering and computer programming. He built a successful 40+ year career as a Database Manager for several major banks, most recently with Wells Fargo.
A dedicated outdoorsman and conservationist, Gary was a longtime member of Trout Unlimited. He passionately pursued fly fishing throughout Connecticut and the Northeast, diligently mapping streams and rivers and sharing his appreciation for nature with future generations.
Gary possessed an inquisitive and analytical mind, leading him to explore numerous and diverse interests throughout his life. Beyond his enduring love for technology and the outdoors, he was an enthusiast of classic rock and the counterculture of the 60s and 70s. A sports-fan in his younger years, particularly of the 90s Yankees, Gary later became a skilled gardener and landscaper. He also enjoyed coaching Little League, birdwatching, mushroom hunting, and the companionship of his dogs. Whatever he pursued, Gary approached it with wholehearted dedication.
Predeceased by his father, Alphonse, Gary is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; his sons, Christopher and Jeffrey; his mother, Natalie; his brothers and their wives, Fred and Gloria, and Tom and Roberta; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy Hackett and Jeffrey and Lynn Hackett; his nieces and nephews, Michael and his wife Aschley and son Ethan, Jamie and her husband, Pete, Michael P., Michael H., Tamsin, Graham, Hannah, Julia; and his Australian Shepherd, River, and Labradoodle, Zoey.
A private celebration of Gary's life will be held by the family. Cards may be sent to 70 Webb Circle, Monroe, CT, 06468. Memories and condolences can be shared on Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in Gary's name may be made to Trout Unlimited at www.TU.org
