My earliest memories of my cousin Andy are very early in my youth.  That was well over sixty (60) years ago.   The earliest memory is brushed with deep sadness, as his dad., Andrew Sr had  just suffered a fatal, major coronary, at just 38 years of age.    That very day, my brother Bob was visiting and had come to play with his cousin AndyJr.  The boys were just 12 years of age.  My brother was in the  boy scouts and he performed CPR on his Uncle Andy, but to no avail.
Andy’s dad was my mom’s  (late, Nellie Pinto) younger brother. And, my mom  loved him dearly.     Andy’s dad lived with my parents in Bridgeport,  when he came to Connecticut and until he married Andy’s mom, Betty Pinto Mollo. 
Andy’s dad worked in Accounting  at the Bridgeport Brass Co. with my dad (late) John Pinto.   My dad worked in the brass rolling mill.  
Our joint families of aunts, uncles  and cousins visited often.   
 My favorite story to tell about the Mollo family is that Andy’s mom  was my dad’s niece. To clarify, Andy’s mom  was my dad’s brother Julius’s daughter.   And, more  fascinating  was the  intriguing fact that Andy’s dad was my mom’s (Nellie)  younger brother.   So obviously,  Andy’s dad met his mom through my parents  (aka Aunt Nellie and Uncle Johnny). 
My mom kept Peggy’s  wedding photo in her Bible, which I keep.  I have sent a copy to Andy and Peggy, at his request a few years ago.

	Our families got to know each other and spend time together, and one of my fondest memories was in Upstate New York at one of the beautiful lakes, where we were invited to join the Mollo's extended family for a week.  What an adventure we all enjoyed with "Maestro Mollo," along with Mimi, at the podium leading our band!  It was such a gift.

Andy always reached out.  We always enjoyed his notes, eCards and calls on holidays, birthdays and other life events.  Andy never forgot.  He was always building and keeping his friends close.  It was special to be in his light.  It was warm.  It was loving.  Andy was always kind and respectful.

I remember when Andy left Save the Children, we threw him a "Roast."  Many of us got up to tell stories of Andy and what he had done to build the institution.  We also talked about our personal love for him and why we believed he had made a difference.  The room was full of energy and excitement, and that was the gift of Andy, and a tremendous loss to the organization that he had helped build.

In more recent years, since Molli and I moved to DC, Andy always reached out to let us know when he and Peg would be in the area. On a number of occasions, we were able to see each other; always able to pick up right where we left off.  It was such fun to get together over drinks or a meal, and we were also lucky to be able to join in the celebration of Amanda's wedding in the fall of 2019.  Andy was beaming with joy and pride that day!

Thank you, Andy, for all that you did.  Thank you for the gifts that you shared so unselfishly.  Thank you for leading with your heart and spirit.  I will miss you, my friend.

Andy was a warm and wonderful friend.

We first met when Andy was the client and I was the agency guy at BBDO.  He had been struggling with how to ramp up Save the Children's fundraising and had been searching for a new agency partner to help make that happen.  BBDO was chosen, and my partnership with Andy began.  After just a few years the Board at "Save" decided that change was needed again.  I know this frustrated Andy, but like the strong and flexible branch that he was, he bowed with the winds and a new agency was chosen.  It wasn't long after that change though, that once again Andy and I were talking, but now it was about me leaving BBDO and joining Save the Children as Andy's partner.

We worked together for many years.  Andy and his team had built an incredible outreach to celebrities - from Paul Newman to Phylicia Rashad and many others.  Sally Struthers, also well-known at that time, had remained with CCF, until one day when Andy came into my office and announced that Sally wanted to leave CCF and join us.  He explained that everyone already thought that Sally worked for Save The Children, and he wanted to give her power a test.  We booked her in and tested her over our other celebrities, and the results were as Andy predicted - Sally was a winner!

Over the course of our years at "Save," Andy and I travelled together on many occasions.  We enjoyed many late and hearty meals on the road, such as a late night steak dinner at Ruth's Cris in Atlanta.  Andy also introduced me to his favorite hot dog hut near Bridgeport where the fries were crisp and the dogs were smothered in pickles, bacon and everything.  A treat that we enjoyed until Peg saved him in the middle of the night from a dreadful heart attack.  Food changed after that, but not our friendship or our joy in finding less calorie rich repasts!
