Formerly of Monroe, CT and Marietta, GA, Alice spent the last 8 years of her life in Shelton, CT alongside her cherished husband, Michael until his death in 2017. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and godmother, and was enamored with the children she taught for many years as a classroom teacher and reading specialist.
Alice was involved in her community, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Sunday School Teacher at St. Jude Catholic Church in Monroe. She was a true friend in need, making and delivering meals for anyone in need of help or TLC. Alice’s heart was tremendous, and she deeply cared about those in her life and even strangers who were suffering in some way. Her instinct was always to comfort, nurture and sustain anyone in need of care, and she showed up for us all in beautiful ways. Alice’s true love was her husband Michael, with whom she enjoyed 52 years of laughter, challenges, adventures, crises, and perfect love that made it a joy. Alice was an incredible mother to her 4 children, devoting her life to them and providing them with an incredible example of unconditional love and servanthood. She gave until it hurt, quietly denying herself in order to provide them with everything she could to make their lives comfortable. Alice adored her 9 grandchildren and reveled in their maturation and triumphs. She always had a piece of wisdom to impart, a funny anecdote to share or a warm hug that turned a bad day around. Alice was beloved in her retirement community at Benchmark at Split Rock as well, sharing close relationships with the staff as well as other fellow residents. As her husband Michael often said, “If Alice was falling out of a plane, she would make 3 new friends before she hit the ground.”
In her neighborhood, family and friendships, Alice loved unconditionally, spectacularly and relentlessly, and that love was returned in full measure. She faced innumerable tragedies in her life, yet remained faithful and eager for her reunion with friends and family in heaven.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Michelle Keckler (Greg), Megan Levin (Michael) and Mary Alice Stevenson; her son Michael (Debbie); her grandchildren, Tim (Emma), Dan, Brianna, Julie, Ramsay, Kathleen, Matthew, Michael and Colleen; her nephews Matthew Ramsay (Mimi) and Jim Ramsay (Susan); her inlaws, Charles (Joan) Grennan, Mary Hupcey (Joe) and Cathy Marshall (Bill); and many other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Visitation will be Tuesday February 7th, 10-11am at Spadaccino Community Funeral Home at 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following visitation at Saint Jude Church at 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT at 11:30am.
