Rudy was born El Paso, TX to Rodolfo A. Gomez Sr. and Maria Socorro Gomez on October 15, 1941. He went to school at Vilas Elementary and El Paso High School. He married Crescencia “Gigi” Gomez on March 4, 1967 in Angeles City, Pampanga, Clark Air Base. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Air Force as Fuels Supervisor in Supply Squadron and retired after 22 years at the rank of MSgt in May 1982. He continued to work at Edwards AFB as supervisor in the Pick Up & Delivery section of Supply Squadron and retired after 15 years of Civil Service. During this time, he received his AA from Cerro Cosso Community College, Bachelors from Golden Gate University and Masters from Golden Gate University. Lastly, Rudy continued to work at the Children’s Center of Antelope Valley until 2011.
Rudy’s greatest happiness came when he was around family and friends. Much of his free time would be spent entertaining at his home that he shared with his wife of 52 years or traveling to love ones home for any occasion.
Rudy was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he was an Eucharistic minister, lector, liturgical director, and Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, where he taught those who wished to convert to Catholicism. He also was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus where he reached the ranks of, Faithful Navigator and Grand Knight.
Rudy is preceded in death by his parents, Rodolfo A. Sr. and Maria Socorro Gomez and his baby brother, Ramon Gomez. He is survived by his wife, Gigi, his children, Luis Gomez (Kim) of Vacaville, CA, Yvonne Weber (Jeff) of Modesto, Jaime Gomez of Rosamond, CA, Jessica Bessette of California City, his siblings, Carmen Patricola of Modesto, CA, Maria Espinoza (George), Mario Gomez (Patty) of Sun Valley, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Luis Gomez, Jaime Gomez, Mario Gomez, Mark Espinoza, Jeff Weber, Damien Bessette, Jake Shay and Jeffrey Weber.
The Gomez family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all his doctors and nurses at Antelope Valley Hospital, Palmdale Reginal Medical Center, and the City of Hope Antelope Valley.
Vigil service will be held at 4:00-8:00, September 6, 2019 at Stickel’s Mortuary located at 2201 Inyo St., Mojave, CA.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:00, Saturday September 7, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 9970 California City Blvd., California City, CA.
Burial will be at 12:30 at Bakersfield National Cemetery, Arvin, CA. Arrangements are by Stickel’s Mortuary
