Mr. Reed was a native of Monroe County, AL and a resident of Mobile, AL for 71 years. Bill was always in construction work. He was Business Agent for Pile Drivers Union Local #438 for 20 years. He served as past-president of the Mobile – Pensacola Building Trades also, as 4 years as job coordinator for AFLCIO Appalachian Council, and was owner of A. L. Reed Construction Company. He was a wonderful husband and father and a friend to everyone who knew him -– he was my "honey".
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Annette “Ann” L. Reed; son, William Harvey (Donna) Reed; daughter, Deborah Ann Reed Gollott; grandsons, William Harvey (Ashley) Reed, Jr. and Chris Nall; granddaughters, Reesha (Thomas) Welch and Christina Nall; great-grandsons, Marshall Taylor, William Harvey Reed, III, Kyle Ashworth, and Kevyn Ashworth; great-grand-daughters, Kinsley Madison Welch and Carley Ashworth; one brother, Winston Taylor Reed of Jacksonville, TX; sisters-in-law, Virgie Reed, Connie Reed, and Sue Peoples; brother-in-law Larry L. (Debbie) Leonard; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Mack Reed; his mother, Lula Vay Reed; his son-in-law, William “Tony” Gollott: two brothers, Mack Harvie Reed and Kenneth Lloyd Reed; three sisters, Louise Johnston, Edna Lanell Reed, and JoAnne Bassett; two nephews, Woodie Reed and Gary Wayne Mayo; and two nieces, Tina Reed and Rhonda Watts.
The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street, with Reverend Mike Staton officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Lynde, Jeff Lynde, Walter G. Pugh, Frankie Hall, and Butch Hilyer. Active pallbearers will be William Harvey Reed, Jr., Chris Nall, Thomas Welch, Larry L. Leonard, Bobby Garrison, and Jimbo Devitt. Interment will be in Shady Grove Cemetery.
