Will completed Murphy High School in 1944. He skipped the graduation ceremony and entered the U.S. Navy instead where he served aboard the Battleship USS Indiana, returning home in 1946. After WWII he was employed as a machinist for the GM&O and ICG railroads until retirement.
His love of his family, friends, music and the railroad was his driving force. His life on Mobile Bay with his wife, Bettie, was simple and humble, yet full of life and love. Family and friends would spend their summers "down on the bay" with Boo Boo and Uncle Will. He would take them crabbing and fishing. He would take them on boat rides, teach them to row boats and throw cast nets. Then, after a full day on the bay, he would play the harmonica for everyone and serve ice cream cones (his favorite).
Simply put, Will was the most humble, loving, kind, wonderful person. His effect on those who knew him is immeasurable. His gentle, caring spirit will live on in many.
The family will receive friends on Friday, 8/23/19 from 1-2 pm at Pine Crest Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2 pm on the grounds of Pine Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mobile Country Music Association, PO Box 14451, Chickasaw, AL 36671.
