Wesley Eugene Perkins, born January 1933, passed away February 19, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Wes was a native of Cahaba Valley in Shelby County, AL. After serving in the US Navy, Wes graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in electrical engineering. He put the degree to good use as a civilian employee with a long career with our government’s Defense Communications Command from which he retired June 1, 1990. His employment carried him all over the world with extensive time in Europe and the Mid East. He loved sharing tales of his travel experiences with family. Wes had close friends but loved family most of all, and the family loved being around him. He was known for his calm demeanor, generosity and humor. He was an avid fisherman and excellent golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Genia Rebecca and James Vollie Perkins Sr. and three siblings, sisters Inez Perkins Bailey (Bruce), Billie Perkins Carlisle (Eugene) and Imogene Perkins. He is survived by his brother James V. Perkins, Jr. (Verna), sister, Peggie Perkins Prish (William), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family of friends. There was a visitation and celebration of life at Radney Funeral Home with graveside services to be held at Indian Springs First Baptist Church Cemetery on Cahaba Valley Rd., Indian Springs, AL on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham, AL.
